11U OE Werth Finishes Strong With A Sunday Run

~~11U Ohio Elite Werth fought its way up through a strong bracket to start the 2014 season with a USSSA King of Swing Tournament Championship.  After a slow start in Pool play, losing a close one to the Ohio Valley Vipers, 6-5, OE Werth got a nice win, 7-6, over the Bridge Beasts, out of Cambridge, Ohio.

Going 1-1 in pool play landed OE Werth the 9 seed, which meant a tough fight to get to the final.  After opening up bracket play with 8-0 Win over the Ohio Playmakers Grey, OE Werth continued their run by avenging their pool play loss to the Vipers, 8-6, in a very good ball game by both squads in the Semi Final.  That left 2 teams standing.

In the Final OE Werth faced the Columbus Cobras in a showdown between two of the top teams in Central Ohio.  It was a well-played game that was very close for most of the game.  Scoreless through 3 innings, OE Werth got the scoring started with 3 runs in the top of the 4th.  3-0 didn’t last long as both teams scratched out a run each in the 5th.  OE Werth, knowing it needed some insurance runs to salt away a victory, tacked on 4 in the top of the 6th to seal the victory.

It was a great opening weekend for Ohio Elite Werth.  Lead by great pitching and very timely hitting, OE Werth was able to push through some early defensive struggles to earn their first title of the year.  Next week they are headed to the Kentucky Pre-Season Championships in Elizabethtown, KY, where they hope to continue their strong play.
