Top showing for a Midwestern team

Each year, the Ohio Elite organization sends a team to compete against the top teams from across the nation. This year's squad finished 4 and 1 falling just short of advancing to the top 8 of 208 teams at Perfect Game WWBA Underclass in Fort Myers.

With scouts from the SEC, ACC, BIG10, BIG12, MAC, and more in attendance, the finished pool play with a flawless 3 and 0 record.

In game one, OEB beat the Staten Island Orioles 5 to 0. 2015 LHP Dalton Stambaugh (Highland) and 2015 RHP Brad Wilson (Northridge) combined for a shutout. Stambaugh struck out four batters over four innings as he sat in the low 80's with command of a good breaking ball and changeup. Wilson struck out seven batters in three innings of work as he sat in the mid 80's with a 72-74 mph changeup. 2015 C/IF Cameron Comer (Olentangy Liberty) collected two hits and 2015 OF Jordan Ramey (Moeller) delivered a RBI double.

In game two, OEB beat Chandler Baseball Elite Prospects 7-3. 2015 RHP Grant Macciocchi (Moeller) sat in the low 80's with command of two breaking balls from a low 3/4 slot. After a tough first inning, he rebounded for two scoreless innings of work. Then, 2015 LHP Braun Miller (Sandusky Perkins) delivered one of the team's top performances of the tournament as the 6-foot-4, 175-pound lefty sat an easy 84-88 mph with a good slider. 2015 3B/OF Evan Lee delivered a clutch bases loaded triple.

In game three, OEB cruised past the O-City Orioles out of Florida with an 8-0 victory. 2015 RHP Alex Barnes (Strongsville), a 6-foot-4, 210-pound prospect, pitched a complete game sporting a mid 80's fastball. 2015 OF Roger Danison (Bloom Carroll), a talented left-handed hitter, collected two hits and three RBI.

After earning the 11th seed, OEB faced off against the Florida Burn Silver in the round of 32. 2015 RHP Sam Bordner dominated in his four plus innings of work with a consistent 87-90 mph fastball. The 6-foot-6, 225-pound righty struck out four batters and didn't allow a run. 2015 infielder Kyle Dockus (Moeller) lead the way at the plate going two for three.

In the round of 16, OEB was matched up against the SWFL out of Florida, who finished in the final four of the WWBA in July. OEB pitched by committee with Tony Iero (North Canton Hoover), Barnes, Miller, and Stambaugh, who threw another three innings of scoreless ball. Bordner and Danison both added two hits a piece. Despite holding a 1-0 lead going into the bottom of the sixth, the Elite allowed three unearned runs to fall behind. In the top of the seventh, John Malott (Milford) hit a two-out, RBI triple, but it wasn't enough as OEB fell 3 to 2.
